WHEN SOMEONE DIES

You usually have to register a death within the first five days. To do this you visit the Register Office in the area which the person died. The people who can do this includes any relative, anyone present at the death, a person who lives in the house where the person died and the person arranging the funeral. You should take the Medical Certificate issued by the doctor showing the cause of death. You’ll also have to fill in their personal details such as name, marital status, place of birth etc.

Tom Newing & Sons Ltd will look after the deceased with respect and sensitivity. They can rest with us until the day of the funeral. We recommend embalming because it delays the natural processes that take place after death. This is particularly important if you want to visit the person in the chapel of rest. We also wash and dress everyone in our care and our funeral directors will carry out your wishes carefully and respectfully.

You can view the deceased if you so wish. You may find this comforting and a chance to say your goodbyes in a private and intimate setting. Some people also like to bring a small gift or photograph to put in the coffin. However, you may find it upsetting to see someone you’ve loved now passed away. Whatever you decide to do, we provide supportive and sympathetic advice to help you through this distressing time.

To tell others in the area about the funeral arrangements, we can help you draft and send a death announcement to a local or national newspaper. We can also assist after the funeral with placing a message in the newspaper to thank those who attended and sent flowers or donations. Our funeral arrangement services cover the areas of Pembrokeshire, Milford Haven, Neyland, Haverfordwest, Johnston Marloes, Dale, St. Ishmael’s, Burton and Herbrandston.
